How air source heat pumps work

Air source heat pumps extract energy from the air outside, even if it’s as cold as -15°C. Delivering heat throughout your home at a lower temperature over a longer time period, the heat from the outside air is absorbed into a fluid which is compelled into a heat exchanger in the heat pump. With a modified central heating system fitted in your Leicester or Leicestershire home by our Rudkin & Herbert technicians, you are then able to harness this air source heat.

High quality and efficient systems

There are two types of air source heat pumps that can collect renewable energy and convert it into fuel for your heating system: air to air heat pumps and air to water heat pumps.

  • Air to water heat pumps collect energy from the air surrounding your property and then distribute it through your heating system using water. It is most efficient at lower temperatures so is ideal for underfloor heating and heating exceptionally large radiators.
  • Air to air heat pumps collect energy from the air, which is then processed to produce warm air for your home via a fan heating system. Again this works at a lower temperature, so it is most effective if left on over a long period of time at a lower temperature.
